    Soul searching within my biz! Happy February!

    BJP Soul Searching and following my heart & passion.

    If you have been a client or following me for any amount of time you know that I have always been a family photographer since the beginning..2009. I decided to dip my toes in the wedding photography industry in 2010. My first wedding was a destination wedding in the Black Hills of South Dakota at a small, outdoor (ceremony was in a small glass church) wedding in the hills. I immediately fell in love with photographing weddings. Boutique Weddings – small, intimate, outdoor weddings. I think I charged $350 for that first wedding. They were our neighbors in Bennington, NE and trusted me to take photos of their wedding, without ever doing one before. I do remember not being nervous at all. I knew that I loved taking photos and this was just another session. I think it was so early in my business that I didn’t really think of everything that could go wrong – like memory cards not working, camera locking up and not knowing how to fix the problem, weather problems, etc. etc. I was so proud of myself for the photos that I took and the memories I captured for them. Looking back at those photos I just cringe now because I can’t believe someone paid me to take them. LOL! If you are a photographer you know what I am talking about.

    It’s so funny when you take a look at your business and do a lot of soul searching and trying to figure out what works and what you are really passionate about photographing… it’s just an eye-opener. My whole point of this blog post is to let the world know that I will be photographing boutique weddings again as they are my true gift and what really lights that fire inside of me.

    I really don’t know why I thought that I should stop taking anymore weddings on. I guess maybe it was because I thought I would miss out on my boys sporting events on the weekends or just time with them or I’m getting too old. Maybe it was burn-out? I don’t really know, but I know that I miss them and I miss capturing all the love between the couples and their families & friends. It’s all about balance. This business is not easy as you are never NOT working; but I wouldn’t want it any other way. I love being able to share my passion and love of photography with all of you.

    New Branding

    So, with all of this being said I am going to be revamping my entire business/brand. New logo, new website, new everything. It will take time and I’m prepared for that and I hope you keep following along with me and keep referring friends/family to me. I will still be photographing families as I always have so if you are a client of mine (or want to be in the future) that I photograph every year I will still be here waiting to photograph your adorable family. I’m not going anywhere, I am just going to be going back to adding more weddings (hopefully) to my schedule. So, again I thank you for all of the friends/family you have sent my way….I hope you continue and let everyone know that I will be adding boutique weddings back to my business.

    What is BJP’s definition of a Boutique Wedding?

    My definition of a Boutique Wedding is any wedding taking place outdoors or somewhere other than a traditional church. These are the types of weddings I have fallen in love with photographing and obviously it was my calling since my first wedding ever was a destination wedding. So those brides/grooms that are having their wedding at a vineyard, barn/ranch, farm, beach, lake, destination, mountains, backyard, elopement, vow renewal, etc. etc.

    Thank you for reading this!

    Every business owner goes through ups and downs and that’s what makes a great entrepreneur. You discover what you are really passionate about and what lights that fire inside you. My business will be something that I love again and something I am proud of. Let’s do this! Thank you so much for reading this if you made it this far. 🙂 I appreciate you so much.

    xoxo, Becky

      a fun snowy session with the Crouch kiddo’s {Glenwood, IA}

      I always have a great time with the Crouch kiddo’s and this time was even more fun because it’s the first snow session I have ever had with them. They had so much fun…and so did I! Thank you Dena for trusting me to take photos of your beautiful children.
